Axles & Hardware
0 productsWhat you need to know about axles & hardware.
Axles, lock nuts, axle bolts, and mounting hardware are sold separately from cart casters and wheels. The standard P&H sizes are 5/16-inch (light/medium duty cart wheel and caster axles) and 1/2-inch (heavy-duty caster bolts). Both are available in zinc-plated steel for indoor cart applications and stainless steel for wet, marine, and food-prep environments.
Common SCW hardware references: MAZC1E (5/16-inch zinc-plated axle, 2-1/4 inch length), MAZA3J (1/2-inch axle bolt), MNSC1N (5/16-inch stainless steel nylon-insert lock nut), MNZA3N (1/2-inch zinc-plated nylon-insert nut). Standard practice is to replace the axle and nut every time you replace the wheel — old hardware can have thread wear or bearing race damage that compromises the new wheel's performance.
If you're not sure what axle size your cart uses, measure the diameter of the existing axle bolt with a caliper. Most US cart manufacturers run 5/16-inch on light/medium duty and 1/2-inch on heavy-duty caster lines.

Cart wheel buyer questions.
Top questions from store-ops teams and refurbishers.
How do I measure my cart wheel?
Lay a ruler across the face of the wheel from one outside edge to the other, through the center of the axle. That is the wheel diameter. Then measure the axle hole through the hub center: most US carts are 5/16 inch, but some specialty carts use 1/2 inch. Tread width is the thickness from inside face to outside face. What is the difference between polyurethane, rubber, and TPR wheels?
Polyurethane lasts longer, handles higher loads, and resists flat spots from parked carts. Rubber is quieter on hard floors and slightly cheaper. TPR (thermoplastic rubber) sits in between. For high-traffic stores, polyurethane is almost always the better long-term cost. Material comparison.
